Hi, I’m Isabelle

I’m a service designer from Luxembourg, striving to create valuable experiences in and outside of digital products. I recently graduated from at Aalborg University in Copenhagen, where I studied Service Systems Design and learned how to create effective and sustainable processes for people and ecosystems.

Service Design, what's that?

Service Design, what's that?

Service design is about designing for the bigger picture. It is a relatively new discipline that combines product design, user and customer experience, as well strategic design. I’d like to describe it as a discipline that analyses and develops processes, involving multiple channels, contexts and products. The aim is to create sustainable solutions and optimal experiences for organisations, customers, users or non-human actors. Through understanding people, relations and infrastructures, service designers choreograph workflows, technologies and interactions to create value for everyone involved. Through collaborative methods that engage both customers and service delivery teams, service design helps enabling holistic and meaningful improvements.

Cities, governments, and businesses are facing new challenges and set ambitious objectives, such as circular economy, digital transformation, sustainable living, data handling and large social and cultural shifts. To be able to navigate through the uncertainties, I deliberately studied service ‘systems’ design to learn how to solve the challenges of tomorrow in multidisciplinary ways, combining technical and creative skill sets to understand the interconnectivity of sometimes seemingly siloed processes. By addressing a whole system, a service designer combines the tangible and intangible and seeks to create solutions for the long-term future for both private and public sectors.

Some people believe that service designers are specialists.

I believe service designers are generalists . Their capacity to tackle challenges from multiple perspectives, utilising diverse knowledge and methodologies, enables them to adapt and work with any given context. Service designers are not limited to specific industries or domains but possess the flexibility to thrive in various environments.

About me

I’m an empath, doer, perfectionist & dog-lover 🐶

I’m born and raised in the tiny country of Luxembourg. I have a background in arts and communication design and completed my bachelor’s in Cologne, Germany. Besides studies and work, I’m always working on some side-projects, trying to turn ideas into reality, dig deep into nerdy topics and get crazy about alternative futures with true impact.

In my personal and professional life, I strive for inclusiveness, the representation of diversity and empathy towards everybody and everything. As a designer, I believe it’s my responsibility to create a better tomorrow and positive change, by trying to find a good balance between human-centredness, ecosystem-thinking and strategic design. I get passionate about projects that involve complex systems and allow for future-proof problem solving. My heart beats a little bit faster when I get to work on projects about digital transformation, civic service design or inclusive design.

Mission

Humans

I aspire creating products & services meant for everybody by focusing on humans and basing my design process on research, empathy & understanding.

Planet

To create a positive impact, it has become a duty for me to keep ecosystems in mind & design solutions without creating new problems.

Knowledge

I believe in interdisciplinarity & like to ask “Who might we ask?” in addition to “How might we?” – because shared knowledge is better knowledge.

Besides designing

I like to spend my free-time cuddling furry animals, eating thin crispy fries or taking analogue photos. I recently learned knitting and love to work with yarn while listening to a good podcast or audiobook – recommendations are always welcome 🎧.
